MARLON SMITH
Marlon Smith, the founder of HoopNotes, began playing basketball at the age of 8 years old. He remembers his older brother attending every game and handing him a 4×6 index card with hand-written notes about what he was observing. ”He would pass me the notes during halftime. I would read it right after my coach’s halftime speech”.
The notecard was filled with pointers about what I should do against team defenses, how to help my teammates, and what I lacked in my shot. I took these notes very seriously and played the rest of the game with these adjustments in mind.
My brother’s comments instilled so much confidence while helping me become a better player. He was the extra pair of eyes I needed to see my own mistakes. As I got older and throughout my collegiate career, I found that film had tremendous value in player development because it allows you to capture the things you could not see.”
Marlon attended Archbishop Molloy High School and became one of the top 5 scorers in the school’s history. He continued his basketball career by playing at Penn State University and professionally overseas.
Today, Marlon uses his basketball knowledge, experience, and passion for the game to help young athletes improve their skills through private training, team development, and basketball clinics.
